Quarried Beakers
The quarried beaker is an exploration of how weight, form and texture affect the experience of an object.
Some explore weight, some form and some texture.
Each quarried beaker is unique, the lines, textures and forms are always different but follow a design example. With each piece a different landscape is made for your hand to explore and enjoy.
Drinking vessels have been Hamish’s main focus as the need to hold the vessel and to bring it to the mouth to use it creates a particularly intimate interaction between the user and the object, foregrounding the texture and colour of the object.
Traditional hammering skills are at the core of this collection.
The function of a beaker is to be held, to explore the surfaces and make you want to engage with it. The ever changing and intriguing surfaces of the Quarried Beakers entice you to hold them in your hand.
Quarried Decanter
The Quarried Decanter follows the design aesthetic of the Quarried Beakers.
Sharp crisp edges with smooth flowing surfaces catch the light giving the object depth and texture.
Hammered from a single sheet of silver Hamish creates the pieces in the Quarried range in the same manner.
Tea Set
This Tea Pot was a piece that Hamish wanted to make for many years. Herbal tea is a staple in his life and is part of his usual routine so it was a perfect fit.
The solid ebony handle and table foot protect the user while also creating an elegant pouring experience.
Storm Bowl
Capturing the broiling depths of the sea surrounding the Hebridean islands in Scotland, the storm bowl is made from hundreds of hexagonal wires.
The swirling wires create the form while the oxidised silver finish gives the piece depth and texture, creating intrigue from the full 360 degree of the piece.
Cascade Champagne Flutes
These elegant champagne flutes feature hexagonal wires rising to grasp the gold plated drinking vessel. Each base is made by hand meaning every one portrays a unique expression of turbulent water.
